I (heart) Portland

I have really enjoyed myself here! Today we went to Bob's Red Mill for breakfast and to tour the mill. Unfortunately we didn't get to tour the mill, but breakfast was good. We did a little shopping in the store. Well, Monica did. I wish I could have, but I don't want to overload my suitcase. It was a pretty neat place.

After that we went to Yarn Garden. It was a neat yarn shop. Monica really liked a mobius cowl that was on display. She liked the yarn it was done in, but wanted something machine washable. She found a skein that she liked and while Elinor napped this afternoon I got her started on it. I found a skein of sparkly Christmas sock yarn. I couldn't resist. I may not get them done for this Christmas, especially with Regina's sweater on the needles, but I will get to them eventually.

After the yarn shop we went to the only vegan strip mall in Portland. There was a vegan grocery, a vegan clothing and accessory shop, and a vegan bakery. There was also a tattoo parlor (supposedly owned by vegans) there as well. All the stores were interesting and I would have loved to really shop there, but I don't want to have to figure out how to get it all back. We did buy lunch (vegan grilled cheese sandwiches) and a cookie at the bakery. Very tasty!

I got to babysit while Monica went to the grocery store to pick up some more items for the meal tomorrow night in the common house. She is lead cook. After she got back, all of us went to Blossoming Lotus, a vegan/raw restaurant, for dinner. I had the four cheese live lasagna. The "live" is a Portland code word for raw. I don't know how you can consider lasagna raw, but I gave it a try. While it wasn't over-the-top delicious, I did enjoy it. Dessert was a gourmet rice krispie treat, and I must say that was absolutely incredible!

I am a little sad to be heading back to Monterey tomorrow. I am very, very, very excited to be going back to my husband, dogs, and cats, but I have had a great time here with Monica, Dave, and Elinor, and I really like the vibe of this city. I hope that Bill and I will be able to make a trip here, perhaps during spring break. Every time I visit, I think that retiring here would be a great idea.

On a completely different note, it sounds like our coach will be here before we know it. Maybe by the beginning of next week!
