Nope, I think I'm actually getting a little faster! Today was the Tiger Trot in Gulf Breeze. This was supposed to be my first 10k, but that was before I found out about the one last week. I am pleased with my time.
My Garmin said 1:02:09, but my official time was 1:01:50. This is not the first time the time hasn't jived, but that's OK. I didn't always remember to lap at the miles. I thought they would have signs or something to remind me, but they didn't post mile markers. Here's the breakdown:
distance time pace
1.05 10:10 9:41
0.95 9:30 10:02
1.08 10:44 9:57
0.92 9:13 10:01
1.0 9:57 9:59
1.0 10:04 10:04
0.28 2:28 8:58
6.27 1:02:09 9:54
1:01:50 9:51 (official)
I came in 3rd of 10 in the 30-39 age group. I think that is quite amazing, considering that it is a 10 year age group. I was awarded a medal! I'm going to wear it all day. If it's not uncomfortable I'll sleep with it tonight!
I am really pleased and amazed at my progress. Sometimes I think I am not doing well, as I see friends who are training for marathons and half marathons and running at an 8 minute mile for 14 miles. But then I think back to when I started, and I realize just how far I have come in such a short period of time. I am impressed that I can keep a fairly consistent pace from start to finish, even on long runs. I know I can run an 8 minute mile; it will take me a while to get there. I don't think it is out of reach.
