Extreme Frustration

The last few days have been extremely trying on my patience.

Tuesday afternoon, around 4 o'clock, Tawny threw up. I decided against feeding her until after 8 that night, much to her and Rava's dismay. Tawny started throwing up again at 10 and after the fourth time I took her to the emergency clinic. It was 11:30. We got home at 3:30 in the morning, with no real explanation. Her liver enzymes were elevated. She went through this last November and again in April. She got 750cc of fluid under the skin and looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Our regular vet did another test on her the following morning, but that came back normal. So we still have no idea what is causing this, nor how to prevent it in the future. We'll do another liver enzyme test when she is better so we can have a baseline value. And I think it is a good idea to keep her on the prescription food for the time being.

Yesterday I loaded up the cats and the dogs and the coach. The cats got to come to work for the first time, since it was too hot to leave them outside in the coach without a/c. They spent the day hiding behind the desk. We got to the site and got set up. It was not the site I thought it was (next to the bathhouse). It was relatively simple to back into. The camp host and the previous camp host (who helped me back in a few months ago) helped.

I cooked dinner and had some wine. I thought everything was going smoothly. I should have known trouble was brewing. I went to sleep right away, since I was super tired. I woke up about 45 minutes later. I decided to go to the bathroom and for some unknown reason I turned on the light. There was enough ambient light and I could have made it without the overhead, but I turned it on. And that's when I saw it. One of the cats had just peed on the bed. I think that's what woke me.

I pulled the sheets and mattress pad off and luckily it had not soaked through to the mattress yet. I put the sheets and the dogs into the truck and drove home. It was a little after midnight. I threw the sheets in the washer and grabbed a spare set and headed back to the coach. I stopped at Wal-Mart and bought a plastic mattress protector. Unfortunately it ripped on the back as I put it on, but the top of the mattress is fully covered. Then all night Marco had the nerve to meow like his life depended on it.

At 7 this morning I took Abby in to the vet so she could have her urine rechecked. She had a bladder infection three weeks ago. Unfortunately she must have used the box before I took her because they said she was empty. I'll try again tomorrow morning. I went back and laid down. Marco was quiet, but I couldn't get back to sleep. Now I'm worried about what he'll decide to pee on today.

The morning I went to DC to see Bill for our anniversary, the cats peed on the loveseat. And the sofa while I was gone. The day after I got back, Marco peed on one of the dog beds. I took both cats to the vet to see if there was a physical problem or if this was behavioral. Turns out Abby had the infection and Marco was diagnosed with Ideopathic Cystitis. Or the feeling of having a urinary infection without actually having the bacteria that causes it. Supposedly it appears under stress. Well, I guess he was stressed yesterday.

I'll wait and see what happens today. I hope he will have destressed some!
