So ... I'm back. I talked to Gil about the hands and he had some suggestions and things we're going to try to keep this from happening again. Cherryl went in a few minutes after I called and talked through my problem. Turns out Julie taught us incorrectly. That is not cool. I think now that Gil is aware he'll keep an eye on her. I do not want to be injured. So now we know. I told Gil that I am committed to completing at least foundations. I'll probably pick it up again next week.
I could make a fist today without pain, so Cherryl and I went to the NAS gym to do the workout of the day (WOD). The gym has set up a little Cross Fit area. We can't do everything, but we can do a lot. This may be where I end up. It's free and convenient. So we started on the rower, 500m in 2:30 or less (I did 2:35). Then we did the WOD: done in reps of 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, and 5. First, squats with dumbbell presses. Second, four-count mountain climbers. Third, sit-ups with a med ball. I had trouble with the 5# weights on my hands, so I ended up doing the squats and the motions for the presses but with no weights. Then for the mountain climbers, my hands could NOT take the position. Then I remembered seeing the video of the "Manmaker" and did them holding on to the dumbbells so my hands could be in a better position. It still hurt, so I did 20, 15, 10, 10, 5, and 5 instead of the Rx. My time was 21:27. Then to cool down, we got on the rower again. This time I did 500m in 2:45. And then a slow walk on the treadmill.
Back to the title of this post. Apparently the seam/tag of my shorts was in an awkward place during my sit-ups. How I didn't realize this and adjust it, I have no idea. But now I have a bruise at the bone at the top of my butt crack that hurts like hell. I cannot sit down comfortably. Only me.
I bought some new shoes tonight. Gil and Julie both recommended Chuck Taylors as good Cross Fit shoes. So I picked up a pair. We'll see.
In other news ...
We started the mystery sock at the shop today. What a mystery it was. One of the charts didn't copy correctly so the shaded boxes looked just like the non-shaded boxes. That makes a huge difference, as a shaded box is a purl and a non-shaded box is a knit. Unfortunately this wasn't caught until some people had left. So I had to send out an emergency email to let them know to call me before getting to that chart. That bugs me. Oh well. It is better to have caught it when we did, than to have people go through the incorrect chart!
My landlord called yesterday and asked why I had put "We are still open" on the sign out front. His wife had driven by and mentioned it. Last week, I had four people come in and tell me that they heard I was going out of business and that's why there was a for sale sign out front. I understand the need for the sign; my landlord wants to sell, so he put the sign out. It brought a lot of questions the first week, but there had been a lull until last week. So I put the message out on the LED sign board. He said that we're good tenants and he doesn't want to ruin my chances for success, so he is going to have the realtor take the sign down. That is very kind of him. The building will remain in the MLS, but there won't be that big ol' sign out front.
I set up the drinking fountain last night. We used to have it for the cats we had before. Marco needs to take in water, the vet told me, and apparently the fountain is a good way to do that. Both dogs and Abby adjusted to it. Marco has been less than happy about it, at least in front of me. I did catch him drinking from the stream this morning, so I am encouraged. I hope more water will help his bladder issues.
I think I'm going to get me a little ice cream.
