So I had fully intended on getting up to run this morning, but it was raining. So I thought I'd wait to see if it cleared up. Around 6:45 I saw this
when I looked out the window, so I decided to go. When I got outside, it looked like it would open up any minute, so I decided to modify the run a little.
Everyone says that if you want to add speed to your run, you need to do short sprints. So I did that today. I had hoped to do four or maybe five sets, but I only got three in before the heavens opened up again. I ran as fast as I could down the block (375 ft), then ran my typical speed for two blocks (0.25 mi) and then walked a block (375 ft).
My times and paces were:
0:28 / 7.06
2:23 / 10.05
1:12 / 17.30
0:34 / 7.08
2:28 / 10.01
1:15 / 17.38
0:36 / 7.53
2:27 / 10.00
1:10 / 18.22
Some of those numbers don't make complete sense. How come if I ran the same distance in 2:23 that I did in 2:27 my pace got slower? But that's what the GPS said, so that's what I'm posting.
When I got back in the house I did some dumbbell squats with overhead presses. I did 5 reps of 10 using 5# dumbbells and then one rep of 10 with the 10# pair. I maybe could have done the 5 reps with the 10#, but it sure would have hurt a lot. It took a lot out of me to use the 5# pair. I noticed towards the end I was lowering into the squat fine, but right at the end I think I may have used my back a little rather than bending more at the knee. I will need to keep an eye on that. But I kept my feet flat and put the weight on my heels.
By the way, the cats did not like being in the bathroom overnight. It will be a struggle. I hope we won't have to do this for too much longer! Off to the shower.
