Final run of the year

I finally got to run this morning and it felt GREAT! The weather was about 40 degrees warmer than it was on my last run. There was some wind, but it wasn't too bad. I ran in shorts. I had a long sleeve tee on because the winds felt a little strong at first, but about halfway through I was wishing I had toughed it out and worn a short sleeve tee.

I ran 3.23 miles in 33:10 for an average pace of 10:17. That's great! I wanted to run at a faster pace than my long training runs. I didn't think it was that fast, though, so I'm happy. Splits were 10:11, 10:23, 10:20, and 2:17. The 0.23 miles in 2:17 is a 9:59 pace, so I picked it up at the end. That makes me happy and is a good way to end the year. I ended with a 5k+ and my goal was to get off the couch and run one.

For Christmas my parents got me a footpod for the Garmin. Now I can run on a treadmill and get my workouts in the Garmin (and thus the desktop software training tracker) and I can monitor my cadence. That's the part I'm excited about. I can't seem to get my cadence faster than 85. Coach Mark and Coach John want it at 90. I have heard that cycling will help with that, so I will give that a try later on. In the meanwhile, it would be nice having something count that for me. I will calibrate it maybe try it out tomorrow.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2011!
