And I'm running! Yes, I did ANOTHER treadmill session today! I felt so good about my little bit of "speed work" this morning that I felt the desire to do more, but better organized.
I set out to do two miles. I broke it into eight laps. I set the treadmill to 5.5, 6.0, 7.0, 6.0 and repeated the set. In terms of a minutes per mile pace, it works out to be 10:55, 10:00, 8:34, 10:00. My total time was 19:55, so my average pace was 9:57. I felt good to have been able to do a lap (two, actually) at a 8:34 pace! Granted, it was on the treadmill, so I have no option to slow down, but it gives me an idea of my capability.
I want to get my typical run down into the nine minutes per mile range. I'm not saying 9:00, but I would like to have the "9:" in the front of my splits for my everyday running. Yes, that means race pace is going to be in the "8:" range and my training workouts will be "10:" and 11:". I have a long way to go to get there, but I'm going to try. You can add one minute to all those and that's where I am now.
Nine months ago I wasn't doing squat. In less than a month I am running my first half marathon. I'm really proud of my progress!
