Good times and good food

Yesterday was the day to eat. Not like the other days haven't been, but Wednesday was my day to chow down. I didn't get to Holsten's or Friendly's for ice cream, but I did get two of my favorites: diner food and pizza!

Regina and I went to the Nevada Diner for breakfast. The Tick Tock Diner would probably have been better, but it was a lot farther to drive. This was the first day we ventured on the road since the storm. The roads were somewhat clear, but Regina drives a Chevy Cavalier (a convertible to boot), which isn't exactly an ideal snowy weather car. So I thought it would be best to stay close to home.

I had a spinach, onion, and feta omelet with home fries, rye toast, and a bottomless cup of coffee. Regina had pancakes.

That night the whole (local) family came over for pizza. I got Angelo to talk and once he got going, he didn't stop! It was actually pretty neat. We talked about a lot of things. He likes science and math, he's thinking about going to a "good college" like Rutgers or Princeton, and he thinks playing baseball or soccer professionally would be fun, but it isn't his first choice. We told a lot of jokes around the table. It was really nice to see him engaging with us rather than retreating. I hope this continues.

You just have to admire that slice of perfection:

YUM!!

Following dinner, one of my friends from high school, Craig Ploth, dropped by to say hi. He saw I was there via facebook and I invited him to join us at the diner. He had to work early that morning, but he said he'd drop by after work if that would be OK. I think Trixy and Cathy and my parents enjoyed seeing him, as did I.

All in all, I really enjoyed my time there. Part of me is still sad that I didn't get to spend the time with Monica and Dave, but the other part thought that the time with my parents was well worth it! There was a little sibling bickering, but nothing like I had anticipated. The only thing that would have been better is if Bill had been able to be a part of it.

Here is Elinor with her new blanket:
