I started this morning with a run. It was hot, but that's to be expected. I read a post on Facebook by my friend Heather last night. A year ago she broke her back and was partially paralyzed. Through determination and a host of competent medical folks, she is now able to dance and run. I decided to dedicate my morning run to her. I had planned to do three laps, 3.45 miles.
The first few minutes my lower back was tight. No worries; that's not too unusual. About halfway through the first lap I experienced something I hadn't felt in years. Knee Pain. I'm concerned. I decided to forge through, figuring perhaps it had something to do with not running for a week, or too much crossfit. I decided to call it a day after the second lap. Interestingly, the pain diminished as I walked back. It has not bothered me today much since then. That makes me wonder. Is it only when I run?
I am in debate for tomorrow, though. Should I run, crossfit, or rest? I know my body better than anyone. If I go to crossfit, I know I will do squats. I know if I complain or express concern about my knee, I'm going to get the answer that the only way to avoid the pain is to strengthen the muscles in the area. While there is truth to that statement, I do not want to further the injury while attempting to strengthen the muscles. We all know that it takes a second to damage something and months to build it up. Until I am complete with foundations, I can't look at the WOD and determine whether it is something I should do or skip. And with my current training, who knows when I'll be done with foundations. I am sure I've been there more than eight times.
Part of me really wants to focus on the running now. I know it is in my best interests to work everything, something crossfit does very well. I just worry that I am trying to do too much at once and not succeeding at anything. If I run two days and crossfit two days in a week, am I doing anything to improve at either?
Moving on ...
After the run, Michelle and I went back to Beulah and picked more blueberries. This time we discovered the Premiere varietal. YUM!! I almost finished my second gallon when Michelle started to feel ill. She was suffering some form of heat exhaustion. I got her some water and we called it a day. I think she had 1.5 gallons. I ended up with 13 ziploc bags.
She said the girls had so much fun last night. They were surprised to have enjoyed it that much. She is going to take them back later this week. We went to get berries for wine. I don't know if we'll do one batch together or if we'll try two batches. I think it will be fun either way. I got the name of someone who sells the plants. I may invest in a few bushes for the front yard. It all depends on their care during the winter and whether I can keep them in a pot. Maybe I'll even move them with us next year.
After blueberry picking, Michelle and I stopped for lunch. Then I went home, let the dogs out, and headed out for a hair cut. There was a new person there - a student - who was interning. She washed my hair. I think I was at the sink for a good 25 minutes. She massaged my scalp and it felt sooooooo nice. After that I came home and did all sorts of exciting house chores, but I won't bore you with the details. I did take a break and start back on the baby blanket I'm knitting for my sister. I don't think I've picked that up in about two weeks or more. I got through the first repeat on the main section. I don't think this will fly, but it should move at a good pace. If I continue to work on it.
And there's dilemma number 2. I am running a felted tote crochet-along in the shop starting Thursday. Do I do the project with the group? It is one that I have had my eye on almost since I opened the shop. I just fear that if I add that to the list of projects I'm doing, I'll never get anything done! I guess I'll just wait and see how the week goes and decide later.
I did finally complete both socks for the Mystery Sock Knit-Along. The pattern is Saviano by Yarnissima. There were several different "things" about this pattern. I really enjoyed it. I have tried several patterns with that particular yarn and none of them worked. This one was the right one.
