Having a great weekend

Tom and Jenn, a couple we have been friends with for years, came in town this weekend. Unfortunately it was for a funeral. They are staying with me for two nights and I am really enjoying their visit. I think it has been at least four years since we've seen each other. Tom just got back from a long deployment.

When Tom came in the house after getting their bags in the pouring rain, he asked if there was anything he could do for me around the house. I thought that was such a sweet offer, and I told him that the only thing I wanted to do was put in motion sensor lights at the garage and front door, but I didn't want him to do that if there were other things he wanted to do or places to go.

He asked me about it again at brunch this morning and again I told him that it wasn't necessary. But he said, "...this is what we do. I want someone to help Jenn with stuff around the house while I'm gone and I'm sure that Bill wants someone to help you while he's gone." Such a sweet sentiment and totally heartfelt. How could I say no? So we spent an hour and a half or so putting in two lights. The test will come when we go out tonight and see if they work.

A storm started to roll in as we were finishing up and cooled the temps. They wanted to do a 10 mile run today, as they are training for the Marine Corps Marathon in October (apparently Tom didn't realize that Jenn had signed him up and now feels like he has a ways to catch up). They went to the base to use the treadmill to avoid getting caught in the rain. I decided to run my usual route. It was Day 3 of Week 1, but I only got two intervals done. The clouds were really coming in and there were lightning streaks visible. So I decided to call it a day and head for home. That's as bad as it got. I probably could have done the other intervals, but I just wasn't sure it was safe. Since they have to get up early to catch a flight, I may give the day one more try tomorrow morning. I can't believe it will take me two weeks to get three workouts done!

As for my legs, the cramps are gone. I was so excited during my stretch today that I could touch my toes! While my legs were cramped, I could barely touch my knees! I think I'm through that hump.

When Tom and Jenn came in last night, Abby and Marco were in the living room. They beat feet when they realized there were guests in the house, but came back out when we got back from dinner. They looked like they were somewhat comfortable, even laying out on the living room floor. I was so encouraged by this, thinking that they may become socialized. Nope. I discovered pee on the loveseat this morning. So I sprayed it down with Nature's Miracle and have banished the cats to the bathroom until I can get the loveseat cleaned. I am really disappointed with this turn of events. I guess when Monica comes in a few weeks that I will let them hang out with us at first and then banish them to the bathroom when I am not there to watch them. This is getting too frustrating.

I got to talk with Bill today. Unfortunately his birthday was not the best day he has ever had, nor was it even good. It was 19 hours long and only about three hours were worth it. I really feel bad for him and I wish there was something I could do to cheer him up. All I can do now is just hang on until October and hope that we will be able to see each other for more than a day or two.

I took apart the green sweater yesterday. I did not realize just how awesome a job I did weaving in the ends! It took me hours to separate the pieces. And not once, but twice, did I cut the wrong piece. I now have some issues with the pieces I planned to keep. I guess I'm going to have to do some repairs. Arg. Tuesday I'll take the pieces apart and rewind the yarn and get ready to cast on again. I need to figure out how many stitches and rows and all that good stuff. Right now though, I'm bumming about messing up and cutting the wrong thing.

Well, time to sign off for now.
