I did Week 1 Day 2 today and it was tough. Not the run, but doing it in the heat. When I left this morning a little after 6, the temperature was around 83 and the heat index was 92. I thought that might be tolerable. Not bad for the first few intervals. Then it got harder. Either I'm weak or it's hot, I thought. Interestingly enough my pace cadence remained constant throughout, but I'm sure my stride changed because I felt like I was going much slower at the end. I started to get a headache and my vision got a little wonky on the walk back. I feel much better after being in the a/c and drinking several glasses of water.
And so that brings me to the next problem. Cramps in the backs of my legs. They started Monday night, so I'm pretty sure they are not exercise induced. (My run was Saturday.) Last night they have worked their way up through my butt and lower back. It is uncomfortable for me to even just sit here. I tried to stretch the hams and glutes before the run, but I don't have the range of motion like I did before because of the cramps. Last time I had this feeling it was a side effect of the medication I was taking. I'm not taking anything now. So I wondered if it could be from dehydration, but I have been drinking a lot of water. So last night and this morning I drank Propel. I don't know if that helps the electrolytes like Gatorade, but it does have vitamins in it. I don't notice a difference. I did notice, however, that the cramps were not bad during the run. I was hoping it was because I loosened the muscle. They feel worse now.
On a side note, I'm a little concerned about Tawny's bladder. She has been drinking a lot of water. She peed in the house while I was out for the run. She peed in the shop last week. Every time I take her out during the day she pees two and three times. I'll have to keep an eye on her over the next month and see if this is related to the extra water she is drinking during this heat wave or if she is having issues. Her annual exam is in September.
Off to the hospital to see if I can get the Epi-Pen and inhaler.
