Week 2 Day 2

I got back out there running today! I knew that today would be the only day I'd have this week if it wasn't raining. Tomorrow and Friday I have to go to training to keep my engineering license active. That starts at 8, so I won't be able to run in the morning. I might be able to go after work if the weather cooperates. Anyway, I really wanted to go back to sleep, but I didn't.

I had a great chat with an old high school friend the other night. Kenny has been running a lot lately and he posts his runs on facebook via dailymile. I get motivated when I see them. So on his suggestion, I joined dailymile and today was the first workout I posted. The GPS must have had a problem because the first lap this morning registered 0.3 miles longer than its usual 1.15.  I'm pretty sure the distance hasn't changed. So here are my laps, as per the GPS.

lap    minutes     distance     pace
1        15             1.7          8:49 (wouldn't that be great!)
2        1              261 ft       walk
3        15             1.4           10:42 (sounds more like my pace)
4        1               267 ft      walk
5        15             1.32        11:22

The weather was not great this morning. The temp was 86, the heat index 97, humidity 79%. The Weather Channel app said there was a breeze of 11mph, but I never felt it. I didn't even see any leaves swaying. It was just hot and humid. I really felt the slowing down in the last lap. More than usual. Even the second lap was slow. I hope to pick up the pace on my next run. I know I'm training for the October 10k and the 5mi bridge run the next weekend, and I haven't run this much at once before, but I still want to do well in the 5k next month. An 11 minute mile is not going to get me to my 28 minute goal.

I think I need to get to bed earlier, or at least I need to fall asleep faster. The after midnight stuff is not doing me any favors. I don't know why I have trouble falling asleep. I'm usually pretty tired in the evenings. If I could get a good night's sleep, I wouldn't feel like going back to bed instead of running in the mornings!

Time to get ready for work. I hope today will be a good day. I don't have anyone signed up for tonight's class, so I might be able to close at 6.
