Day Ten of the big move west

Friday morning we said goodbye to the Evans family and headed out. Betsy, Dave, and Judy decided to travel at their own pace, which was fine with us. We hadn't gotten 30 miles outside Drasco when the "fun" started. Marco had been sitting on my lap. He threw up. Thankfully I had learned early to have a towel on my lap when a cat wanted to sit on it. I put him down, shook off the towel and put it in the bed of the truck. Then we moved on.

We got about a mile down the road when I smelled poo. It took Bill a minute to smell it and we had to pull over. Marco, who was on a towel on my lap again, decided to take a poop. Unfortunately it was not all solid and we ended up having to give him a shower! That towel went in a bag in the bed of the truck and we were able to start out again. We had one more pet towel, so we were hoping there would not be any more accidents. I wrapped Marco up like a burrito and held him on my lap for almost two hours.

We were fortunate and there were no other incidents the rest of the trip. We stopped every few hours to stretch our legs. It was a pleasant trip after that. The cats and dogs got to go to Missouri for the first time and they and I were in Kansas for the first time. Bill will probably not go to any new states on this trip.

We set up camp at the for the night Deer Creek Valley RV Park in Topeka, Kansas. Betsy called us when were were just outside Topeka to see how far we had gone. Turns out we were about 10 miles ahead of them! They had stopped for lunch and sightseeing in Branson. They came out to the RV park with the idea that we would go to dinner together. Tawny was having issues, so my general feeling was not to have to deal with poop again. There is a barbecue restaurant right next to the RV park, so they went there. Bill joined them and I stayed behind to watch the dogs and wash the towels. Apparently the food was good and I am glad he got to spend a little more time with his parents, even if it wasn't ideal. Tawny seems to have calmed down some, so I think we're making progress.

Mileage for the day = 408
Total mileage = 1149
