Smaller hills, little oxygen

This running in altitude is tough! Bill and Judy left early this morning to drive into Aurora for their mom's first chemo infusion. I heard Adam leave around 7:30 and I knew he was going for a run. I ran out to ask if he'd wait a few so I could join him. He thought I had gone with Bill and Judy. So I ran back in and got changed and put the dogs in the coach.

We ran to his parents' house, which is around two and a quarter miles down the road. We took a brief break there and checked in. Adam's mom is away and she asked Adam to check in on his dad from time to time. His dad was fine. We chatted for a few minutes and then ran back. There were some hills, but they weren't bad. Nothing like the other day. I was feeling the altitude and the lack of oxygen and this was a little bit tough. But I feel pretty good about it.

We ran 4.52 miles in 48:49 for an average pace of 10:47. I sprinted the last tenth of a mile in and that felt good. Splits: 10:14, 10:33, 11:19, 11:15, 5:28 (=10:25 pace). Max speed was 9.3 mph, which is a 6:27 pace. That was my sprint. I was actually amazed that my sprint speeds have gotten faster. The one I did on the Houndstooth run was a sub-7:00 pace, too. Maybe I am getting a little faster.

My calves are still cramping, but not nearly as bad as they were earlier in the week. I have been rolling them at night and I think that has helped. The family seems to think that it is from dehydration or a potassium deficiency. While these are good suggestions, I have been drinking at least 90 ounces of water a day, usually with an electrolyte tablet in them, so I think I am hydrating and getting potassium. Good thoughts, though. Off to a fun day of getting food for the trip, doing laundry, and getting the coach packed again.
