Day Twenty-nine of the big move west

Wednesday morning, after a long leisurely wake up, we took a driving tour of Bryce Canyon National Park. It is beautiful! The views and rock formations are stunning. We drove down to Rainbow Point and stopped at Natural Bridge

Then we headed out to Zion National Park. We just made the length cutoff (the switchbacks are so severe they have to limit the vehicle length) but didn't make the width requirement. We had to purchase a tunnel permit. When we got to the second tunnel, we had to stop and wait until oncoming traffic was halted and we could go through down the middle of the lane.

We got through and took the switchbacks. They weren't as bad as the ones on the Beartooth Highway, but still a little hairy. We drove to the campground and got set up. As we were talking to the ranger at the gate, Abby popped her head out the window behind Bill. The ranger was a little surprised.

We settled into the campsite and then walked over to the visitor center. We found out there was a bus tour with a ranger scheduled for that evening so we signed up. The tour was interesting. I learned a lot about the flora and fauna of the park as well as the Native Americans and the Mormons who previously inhabited the park.

Mileage for the day = 88
Total mileage = 3326
