Yesterday was a pretty good day overall. I worked on the sweater in the morning then I headed out on some errands. I picked up some yarn at the "shop" for two customers and then I went to the bank. I didn't get a chance to have lunch before the crochet lesson I had. The lesson went well. I think she has really picked it up. Then I headed home.
We had thunderstorms threaten all morning. I was a little nervous about leaving Tawny alone, but she did really well. She had her Thundershirt on and I had given her a Xanax. When I got home I vacuumed. The kittens did not seem to like that. However, Brave Tawny was by their side the whole time to let them know it was OK.
Then my friends Sock Amy and Cookie Amy came over. We played with kittens for a while and then headed out for Girls' Night Out. First stop was Aragon Wine Market for the Thursday evening wine tasting. There were four whites and two reds. Surprisingly, I think I prefered the Semillon over all of them. One of the wines we tasted was a Zin from Starry Night Vineyards in Lodi, CA. The Zin was really light and almost fruity. It would be a perfect Zin for summer. I usually like my Zins to fill up my mouth, jump out of the glass, and smack me. This one was very laid back. It was quite nice. We will have to make a stop there when we do our Lodi tasting weekend.
Next stop was Franco's for dinner. Mmmm Italian food. I am glad I asked about the sauce. They have a sauce of crushed tomatoes which they then turn into either the diablo sauce or the regular red. The regular red sauce has chicken stock in it. So they made me a non-spicy sauce without any stock. It was quite good. From there we headed home.
On the way we had to pass Oh Snap Cupcakes. We had talked about it on the way over, but since they close at 7, we figured we'd miss them. Well, we were driving by and the open sign was on! So we had to make a stop. I got the butterfinger cupcake. A vanilla cake with peanut butter frosting and chocolate frosting and little butterfinger crumbles on top. Mmmmmmm. I probably should have run a few miles when I got home. What a perfect night out.
So you're probably wondering what went wrong. One word: Tawny. I left her Thundershirt on, just in case. When I came home, everything seemed to be OK. I let them out and then headed to the bathroom. As I passed the kitchen doorway I saw it. She had gotten into the kitchen, ate the cat food, destroyed the cat food container trying to get what was in it, pulled the spatula off the counter and chewed it, and chewed up the scoop to the dog food. Then I saw the water bowl was completely turned over. I was not going to give her the rest of her dinner.
I found her means of entry. The post I had put in place was there with twine, so it had some flex. She forced her way in the hole. I'm going to go to Home Depot to see if I can get a metal rod to put there. I can only do that on the one gate. The other doesn't have the holes drilled in. Yet, that is. Of course it is so precariously balanced in the wall that if she tried to get through it she would probably take the gate off the wall. Maybe I should close off that side completely and make the cats use only the gate by the laundry room.
That just sucked the life out of me. All the endorphins from a fun night out left in an instant. I just don't get it. Is the Xanax making her more anxious? I think the last time it happened I had given her a pill. I'll have to go back through the blog archives to verify that. If so, maybe this isn't the appropriate drug for her.
Am I sure it was Tawny? No, not positive, but I'm 99% sure. Poor Rava had to suffer with guilt by association. She also did not get dinner. I'm sure she's glad she wasn't the cause of my ire and the focus of my yelling. I punished Tawny by not letting the kittens out last night. I spent a good while in the bathroom with them. They are such cuddle bugs. That helped make me feel better.
So I am going to head out to Home Depot, then try and finish the sweater, then head out to knitting group. I hope that Tawny will behave herself while I'm gone and I hope that the more permanent fix is successful. I'm also curious about the Xanax, so I'll have to research that.
