Yeah, I KILLED that race today!
I ran the St. Sylvester's Inaugural Flag Day 5k this morning. It was hotter than heck, and the humidity was thick, but I did pretty well.
Mixed feelings on this one. I'm pleased with my performance. I had wanted to PR, but with all the heat and humidity, I wasn't sure that would happen. This time is about 50 seconds slower than my PR, but I'm happy with it. The best part is that I placed FIRST in my age group! I was more than two minutes ahead of second place!
Now for the bad news. My official time registered at 30:48. I looked at the clock when I crossed the finish line and it said 28:37. I know, because I was really pushing it the last two hundred feet so I would come in under 29. My Garmin agreed with that time. When I questioned the preliminary results, the timing people said that it doesn't matter what the clock says, your time is when you get scanned in. Really? It took more than two minutes for someone to "scan me in"? Harumph.
So in my world, I ran 3.14 miles in 28:37 for an average pace of 9:07. Splits: 8:42, 9:07, 9:34, 1:14 (=8:57 pace). Still pleased with this run.
The best part? My leg did not bother me the entire race!
