Thursday was a long day. We started out meeting our friend Rozanne for breakfast in Mandeville. When we arrived, we tried to find a place to park the coach (not often an easy task). We went around the block and parked along the side street. We discovered the bike rack that we have was bending under the weight of the bikes. We need to get a new one. We moved the bikes into the coach for the time being. I went to unhook the dogs from their seatbelts. I felt such an incredible pain in my right foot. I looked down and I was covered in FIRE ANTS! I ran away and shook off my foot. Too late. The damage was done. No, I don't have black toenail polish on. It is a deep wine color and the photo doesn't reflect that.
I went in the restaurant and got some ice. One of the waitresses offered me some aloe gel. The combination of the two worked well to cut the pain. The waitress put some of the gel in a go cup for me to take. That was so sweet. My foot was killing me the whole drive. I took a benadryl and that made me sleep. Bill shouldered the driving for the day.
Breakfast with Rozanne was really nice. We haven't seen her in three or so years, so it was great to catch up. Then we got the pets situated and headed out. We decided to try to get as close to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, as we could. We had seen that there was an RV park run by the Army Corps of Engineers called Rising Star that was around 10 miles before Pine Bluff. GPS coordinates: 34.16889, -91.73667. We made it and discovered this hidden gem! The park is beautiful! The sites are quite spacious and shaded and on the water (the Arkansas River). Each site has a shaded picnic bench. I wish we could stay longer.
This is the view from our front door.
The park host came over and talked for a little while. He mentioned the America the Beautiful card, which is free and will get you into most federal and some state parks for 50% off. That will come in handy on this trip! We are going to get the information from him this morning and go to the Little Rock office to pick up a card. Then we will find a bike shop to get a better bike rack and then it is off to Tannenbaum to the family reunion.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, Abby likes riding on the center console. Her thing is that she likes to ride facing backwards and she puts her paws on the bars. It looks a little awkward to me, but she seems to be quite comfortable.
Mileage for the day = 408
Total mileage = 584
