I am so bummed. I really enjoyed these lessons!
I had asked Coach Mark if he would be around for a few minutes before my lesson. I wanted to give him and John their hats at the same time and in person. Here's some pictures of the hats.
It's a tri hat! Swim, bike, run!
They seemed to be really thrilled with them. I wish I could do more. Mark took a picture of him and John wearing the hats. Once he sends it to me I will post it.
So, back to the lesson.
He taught it just as if it were a training session. These are composed of different parts, including a warmup, drills, a main set, and cool down. So we did these parts. I can't remember everything we did, but I do remember doing a 4x50 two count pause/swim. That means for the 25m down the pool I was to do a two-count pause, which is a drill to concentrate on being on my edge and then for the next 25m I do a freestyle swim putting into practice wheat I did on the previous 25m. I did that 4 times.
One of the next drills we did was a pull drill, so I was to concentrate on the arms and use the pullbuoy to keep me up. That was an 8x25, maximum DPS (distance per stroke). So I was supposed to do as few strokes as possible, maximizing the distance I travel with each stroke. I struggled with this drill, mostly because the pullbuoy is not comfortable. John modified my pushoff and told me that I can glide with each stroke. Those two pieces of information made a huge difference. I went from 23 strokes to 17. That can make a huge difference!
Then it was on to the main set. That was 6x25 decrease 1-3 50 secs. So I had to swim 25m easy, moderate, and hard and then repeat that. I had 50 seconds. If I swam fast, I'd get more rest. I did the first three in 38, 36, and 34 seconds. I did the second three in 40, 37, and 36. I was pretty happy with that!
So it was a super lesson. John said I looked really good. I am so happy to hear that! I am excited, thrilled, and grateful. I will miss John and Mark and the lessons a lot. I laugh when I hear myself say that I am going to miss swim lessons. Just a few months ago I was losing sleep because I was so scared and nervous to go to my first lesson!
