Today went well. Only two packers came today. I think if the third had come, they would have been done packing the house today. I am impressed by Candy, the team lead. I am not as impressed by James. She gives me the impression that she cares about the job she does. If anything, she over-packs. I saw her put two suction cups (from window hangings) in paper and wrap them up. If we're over the limit, it'll be because of her packing! No, I'm not complaining, as I'd much rather be over packed than under packed. James seems to be here because he has to be. He doesn't appear to give things the same attention. Apparently when he worked for another moving company he did local door-to-door moves. I've had to ask him to box things up that I suspect would be OK to put on a truck for a door-to-door or a cross-town move. It's all OK I suppose. If I wanted it done my way, I'd have to do it.
It was a long day, but Dan and Cathy Cain came to visit for a bit and Michelle and the girls spent the day. I appreciate the company. Since the master bed and bath were packed yesterday, I let the cats loose in there today. I think they appreciated the extra space and comfortable surroundings. Unfortunately they'll be back in the spare bathroom tomorrow.
The packing team's boss dropped by this morning to follow up on them. He saw where they were at and mentioned that he'd be able to get a "lease trailer" out tomorrow to start loading our stuff. The good news on that is that we will be the only shipment on that trailer all the way to Monterey. That makes me feel a little better about keeping the handling of our stuff to a minimum. It was a long day and I am thoroughly exhausted. I'm not sure why, as I didn't do anything.
Our next-door neighbor had asked a week or so ago if it would be OK to trim our tree. I told him yes. Since then I got an estimate from a tree-trimming company. It's not that I don't trust Arthur, but I feel that a professional company can make it look good which will add to the curb appeal of the house. I had moved most of the stuff to the curb for pick up tomorrow when I remembered the microwave. I took it out there and found Arthur trimming our tree! I told him that I had someone coming and not to worry about it. I felt bad. I should have gone over there and mentioned it to him last night, so he wouldn't do it.
I was thrilled to get the chance to talk to Bill today. I am so excited for him to come home. I'm really glad these days are so busy. If I was just sitting at home I would completely go insane with the anticipation. Instead I'm going insane trying to do everything I am supposed to do. It's a better problem to have. Once the moving truck is gone and I'm left with nothing to do, I may go insane. Thankfully it won't be for that long!
Karma was speaking my language this morning. Today's Groupon deal was $50 for $25 at my hair salon. I need a trim and I was planning to get my hair cut before Bill gets back. Now I can do it for less! That was a good sign. I bought the Groupon. I told Dan Cain about it this morning and he downloaded the app. I've only bought three Groupons since they started servicing Pensacola in January or February, but they have been worth it. I have done my research and there is a Groupon in the Monterey Bay area. That will be great for getting to know restaurants and other local businesses there. We can possibly use it on our transit across the country, depending on the deal.
I talked with Jenn Bodine today. I miss her a lot! We had such a great conversation. She is so excited that I'm doing triathlons now, as it gives us another option. She wants to do a race of some sort together. She is thinking about doing the Big Sur Marathon (or maybe the half) next year. She has mentioned taking a bike trip through Napa, running a half marathon, or doing a triathlon with me at some point during the next year. They should find out their orders in a few weeks. If they stay state-side our options increase. If they go to Europe, it will be a little more difficult. I wouldn't mind meeting her somewhere in Europe to do something ...
I guess time will tell. In the meanwhile, I have something to look forward to. Oh and by the way, Bill -- if you're reading this -- the bike tour of Napa would include you and Tommy Bodine!
That about sums up the day. Oh wait! I forgot to tell you how it started! Last night when I went to the McGuire's run, I put the trash bags in a kitchen cabinet and pulled the cat food up. No problems. When I got home I took the trash bags out so I would be sure the packers wouldn't pack them. (I am positive Candy would have asked. James not so much.) This morning when I went for my ride and run I pulled up the cat food. When I came back I opened the front door. No dog greeted me. Odd. I walked in and looked toward the bedroom and saw Rava. She made no move toward me. Double odd. Then my eyes focused on the area at the entrance to the kitchen and saw the trash bag. And the trash. All over. Then I turned to the living room and saw the Whataburger wrappers from yesterday's lunch all over the floor. Rava saw the spool up and ran to hide. I called for them and made them go out. Surprisingly Tawny came and cautiously made her way past me and out the door. I had to go and get Rava, pick her up, and drag her across the floor to get her to go outside. I was so mad that I left them out there while I cleaned up and took a shower.
That was a cruel way to immediately crush my "runner's high". All those endorphins stopped almost immediately. I have no one to blame but myself. If I didn't take the gates down, there wouldn't be this problem (unless I forgot to close one), but I took them down to ease life for the packers. Live and learn I suppose. I won't be having this problem again tomorrow. I guarantee.
