So I worked up the courage again and went to base at 4:00 for the lap swim. When I got there the guy working the desk informed me that I couldn't use any equipment like a kickboard or fins. Well, that was my plan. I don't know how to swim yet; I just wanted to practice what I did the other day. Equipment is allowed only from 6:00 am to 7:30 am on Fridays for "equipment swim". You get your own lane then. I was going to have to share a lane tonight. Never mind that two of the three pools were completely empty, there were two people in each lane. I was going to have to "follow the rules for multiperson lap swim". I have no idea what that means. Since this was not what I had in mind, I got my $3 back and left. I had other plans for tomorrow morning, but I suppose I can rearrange my schedule. I'm just afraid that when I get there they are going to tell me that it is for Active Duty only.
In summary, I spent two and a half hours, drove 42.4 miles, and burned through around $6 in gas all for nothing. I am so frustrated, I don't want to do this anymore.
The other pools on base do not open until Memorial Day. I guess at that point I can go to the O'Club pool and see if I can get a small corner to practice amongst the moms and kids just goofing off and trying to stay cool on a hot summer day.
Now I guess I need to decide whether I am going to rearrange my schedule and take a chance and go for equipment swim tomorrow or not. I need to come up with a Plan B.
