Today's swim lesson was AWESOME! John had me warm up by swimming two laps however I wanted. I did freestyle down and backstroke most of the way back. Then I flipped over and finished with freestyle. We worked on drills a lot today. I feel like I went down and back a hundred times. We worked on kicking, then on staying on our edge, then one arm drills, then arms only. It was pretty tiring.
Then John said we were going to swim a set. I was to do 4x25, 50 seconds, descend 1-4. I required a translation. It means that I have 50 seconds to swim the length of the pool. If I do it in less than 50 seconds I have the balance of that time to rest. The descend part means that each lap must be progressively faster. I started out at what I considered fast, but not too fast. First lap was 30 seconds. Pressure's on! Second lap was 29 seconds, third was 26 seconds and the fourth was 24 seconds. AWESOME! I am so proud of myself!
I am really excited with that. I probably don't look too smooth in the water, but I know that will come with time and practice. I won't have any lessons next week because Monday is a holiday and since next Saturday is a kid's tri that MPI got roped into doing (without too much time to properly prepare), John wants to focus on that. So we'll be back on the following week. That gives me plenty of time to practice. The Corry pool opens on Memorial Day and there's a pool at the campground, so I really don't have any excuses. Except that I really should not swim alone.
